Chip crisis: Texas Instruments' production is said to have great complicity

As the Taiwanese industry service Digitimes.com reports, sources from the notebook industry see the most important factor in the current shortage of computer chips in the lack of willingness to act on the part of the US company Texas Instruments (TI). Accordingly, it is comparatively simple products, such as the analog chips for voltage regulation manufactured by TI as the market leader in this area, which also slows down the production of PCs & Co., and less so the more modern chips from high-tech providers such as TSMC.

According to sources from Taiwan, Texas Instruments will continue to hold back with the expansion of new production capacities, so that the products from the area of analog chips that are in high demand are less available. The manufacturer should only be able to deliver more chips towards the end of 2022. Extremely long delivery times are criticized, for example, and the fact that TI is not in a position to adhere to the schedules agreed with customers for orders. Big problems for the industry

This also means that production lines in the automotive industry come to a standstill, and manufacturers of smartphones and notebooks are also said to have "massive problems" as a result. Co-boss of Asus had recently revealed the extended delivery times for products from US chip suppliers as a problem - although without naming them, Texas Instruments and competitor Analog Devices could actually only mean the two market leaders in this area as American companies.

This also leads to negative synergy effects, which, according to the report, are devastating for the entire industry: For example, TSMC suffered a drop in sales because Apple did not want to purchase its new SoCs for the iPhone 13 in the originally expected quantities.
