Cupra put in front of Seat: This is the new Electric Cupra Born

Once Audi, VW, and Škoda get their new electric models it is to be expected that the next in line is the Seat. But the Volkswagen Group had different plans and gave preference to the new Seat sports brand Cupra. And the result is an attractive new Born.

The new Cupra Born is presented online, and the first models are set to hit the road at the end of the year. The car is technically very similar to the Volkswagen ID.3 and ID.4, the Škoda Enyaq, and the Audi Q4 E-tron, but conceptually the similarity is greatest with the VW ID3. This compact stands out with its design, which is a combination of the design of a classic compact and an SUV and is quite attractive.

The sharp front end without the grille and with large holes in the bumper has not been seen on any other Cupra or Seat model so far. And the rear is dominated by a sporty look.

The interior is quite similar to that of the Volkswagen ID.3. The instruments are minimalist, the touch screen is huge (up to 12 inches), there are almost no classic keys, and the gear lever is integrated together with the instruments. Therefore, in the space between the seats, there are only compartments in which there is a wireless mobile phone charger. Born can also be equipped with an augmented reality head-up display.

According to the announcements from Cupra, the interior of the car should be quite spacious, and the trunk can fit 385 liters, which is very good for a compact car. In Cupra, they are very proud of the ecological component, so in the seats, you can find a special material Seaqual Yarn made of recycled plastic that was taken from the sea.

In terms of performance at Cupra, they made an effort to offer the car more. Motors, as well as batteries, are already known from ID.3. The batteries thus have a capacity of 45, 58, and 77 kW / h, while the engines develop 150 and 204 hp. A special feature of Born is the e-Boost package on the 204-hp engine, which can increase its power to 231 hp for a certain period of time.

The base model with a battery of 45 kWh and 150 hp to 100 km / h accelerates in 8.9 seconds. The model with a 58-kWh battery and 204 hp performs the same task in 7.3 seconds. It accelerates the fastest model with the same battery and engine, but with the e-Boost package, which takes a sporty 6.6 seconds to reach 100 km / h. The most prestigious combination with a 77-kWh battery and an e-Boost home engine accelerates to 100 km / h in around seven seconds.

It is this last-mentioned version that has the best reach. The Cupra promises a 540-km range per WLTP for it, while mid-range models with a full battery cover 420km. The version with the smallest battery, which is 340 kilometers, has the smallest range. The maximum charging power is 125 kW.
