Elden Ring is playable on Steam Deck

Elden Ring is also playable on Valve's Steam Deck. But here, too, there were minor stutters and performance drops.

New FromSoftware game Elden Ring and handheld PC-based gaming Steam Deck both launched on Friday, February 25th, 2022. What could be more obvious than to see if Elden Ring is also playable on the Steam Deck. The short answer is simply yes.

Valve now rates games for Steam Deck on compatibility. Valve lists Elden Ring as Verified for Steam Deck here. Now the question remains as to how well the action role-playing game can really be played on Valve's handheld console. Even before the Elden Ring release, the official system requirements for the PC had caused discussions among Steam users. Many players found the minimum requirements to be very high. The technology professionals at Digital Foundry also looked at the title's performance and found the cause of the jerks that were felt. So does the Steam Deck also have problems?

At first, the game sometimes had problems starting at all. At the beginning of the game, the Steam Deck screen remained black and could not bridge the splash screens at the beginning. After a few restarts, the game started. Basically, the mini stutters also exist on the Steam Deck. Here, too, the fps dropped from 35 to 40 fps, sometimes by 11 to 13 fps. As soon as new areas load in the background, there are masses of particle effects or spawn-ins, these performance drops occur.

However, there was a silver lining: Valve referred to the experimental version of Proton (Untested dxvk, vkd3d-proton and Wine), which should now also be released as a stable version for Steam Deck. Apparently, progress has been made here with the performance dips. However, FromSoftware has confirmed that they will continue to tweak the performance of Elden Ring so that the game should run reasonably well on a variety of PC environments and platforms.

In other news, the revolutionary solution announced as a lifeline for Ethereum miners is one of the worst scams, and the protection on NVIDIA LHR graphics is not broken!

It turned out that the tool published on the GitHub site, which was supposed to unlock the full potential of Ethereum mining through Nvidia RTX maps, contains dangerous malware.

Toms Hardware, PC Gamer, The Verge, and many other global IT sites reported in mid-February the news of unlocking Nvidia RTX LHR v2 Unlocker tools as a hit, causing an avalanche of similar news in all other media, to now turn out to be a great cheat.
