MediaTek tests Dimensity 9000: faster CPU than Snapdragon 8 Gen 1

MediaTek has become bold - it has released a video showing a Dimensity 9000- powered device running various popular benchmarks, throwing a glove at Qualcomm's face. In short, Dimensity wins the CPU but loses the GPU battle. However, the margins are quite small in both cases.

The video starts with AnTuTu (v9.0.7), and the MediaTek chipset posted a score of 1,017,488. We knew pretty early on that the chip would break the 1 million point mark, but so did Snapdragon. Realme GT2 Pro also launched AnTuTu, but that was a few weeks ago, so it may have been an older version, which is why the results can’t be compared.

Next is Geekbench where Dimensity scored 1,273 on single-core tests and 4,324 on multi-core tests. Snapdragon results with Galaxy S22 Ultra / Note with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 are 1,219 and 3,154. The Galaxy Tab S8 + also scored 3,000, although there were higher results with more cores from the 8 Gen 1 (but still below the 4,000 limit).

Where did it come from? Well, let's look at the CPU clock speed per core. The Dimensity 9000 runs its Cortex-X2 at 3.05 GHz, three Cortex-A710 cores at 2.85 GHz, and four A510 cores at 1.8 GHz. For Snapdragon, it’s the X2 at 3.0 GHz, the A710 at 2.5 GHz, and the A510 at 1.8 GHz. So, the difference in performance seems to come from the middle cluster.

Moving to the GPU, the MediaTek chip succeeded with 238 fps in the GFKSBenc v3.0 Manhattan test, while Snapdragon surpassed the Apple A15 in this test with a score of 267 fps. Version 3.1 of the Manhattan test showed that Dimensity scored 162 fps and Snapdragon 176 fps.

Moving to 1440p resolution with the Aztec test, Dimensity scored 43 fps with Vulcan and 42 fps with OpenGL, while Snapdragon scored 49 fps and 43 fps, respectively.

Several other results - Dimensity 9000 got 17,573 in PCMark and 1,024 in ETHZ AI Benchmark (v5). We do not have results from the Snapdragon angle, so we cannot compare them, Sparrows News reports from the Weibo network.
