New Transformers Sequel Has Just Been Announced: Hold On To Your Hats!

Get Ready because the Beast Wars are coming to cinemas! The seventh movie in the Transformers franchise will include characters from the Beast Wars line of toys and the famous cartoon.

The plot of the movie, which just started production, will be set in 1994, which means it will be taking place between the Bumblebee movie which was set in 1987, and Michael Bay’s movies set in the 2000s. The new characters include the Maximals and Predacons from the cartoon and the toy line, as well as new villains, the Terrorcons, who will take on the mantle from the Decepticons. No need to fret, of course, Autobots are still part of the team, and to everyone’s delight Peter Cullen will reprise his role of Optimus Prime.  The Rise of the Beasts will in a way be Optimus’ origin story, and it will explain how he became the Autobot leader through the conflict with the Terrorcons who are led by a villain whose name is Scruge.

The director Steven Caple Jr. (Creed II) explained that “Terrorcons are a new threat to this universe. When the Terrorcons enter the film when they disrupt our movie, you’re gonna feel it,”.

During the virtual production kickoff which was hosted by the Paramount Studios, no footage was shown so the plot is still completely unknown. However, we did get to see photos of a few new Transformers who will join the cast, that Lorenzo di Bonaventura showed. Optimus and Bumblebee are back, although Optimus will be in an off-road Camaro form. Mirage and Arcee are also back in the forms of Porsche 911 and Ducati 916. These new designs were all inspired by the original Autbots’ G1 looks. No concept art shown at the event is available, however from what we gathered this allegation seems to be true. Transformers will be the less sinewy weird metal that we had the opportunity to see in Bay’s movies, they will be boxier, more obviously reconfigured car parts.

Airazor, Rhinox, and Optimus Primal, the three Maximals were also shown, in their animal form only though, and they are more statuesque and organic than machines.

New humans will also be featured in this movie. Anthony Ramos (In the Heights) and Dominique Fishback (Judas and the Black Messiah) will be the ones to introduce us to this new war. Fishback will play Elena, an artifact researcher trying her best even though her boss keeps taking credit for all her work.

On the other hand, Ramos will play Noah, who was born in Brooklyn and had just returned home to his mother and younger brother from serving military and is trying to get a hold of things in 90s Brooklyn. When talking about his character, Ramos said that he is “always hustling” and that that comes from him being from “a low-income home”. He also mentioned that he has a way with electronics, which will no doubt come in handy in this new robot adventure.

One of the great things about this movie, Ramos said, is that he learned to drive. “I got my license two weeks ago for this film!” he laughed.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will premiere on June 24, 2022.
