Officially introduced Nokia G21 - comes with a large battery

Just days after the first rumors surfaced, Nokia officially unveiled a successor to the G20 called the Nokia G21. Nokia’s budget smartphone comes with improvements in almost every department, from the screen to the battery to the camera. Here’s everything you need to know about the Nokia G21.

Nokia’s G20 has never been a premium smartphone with flagship specifications, nor has the G21. But that doesn’t necessarily mean Nokia hasn’t added anything special to this phone. The Nokia G21 comes with a large 5,050 mAh battery. The company claims that it can last up to three days with one charge, and if experience has taught us something, it is that this is not impossible.

Charging technology has also been improved. The Nokia G21 is now compatible with USB PD 3.0, which means the phone can be charged up to 18W. However, Nokia only ships a 10W charger in a box, so you may have to spend a little more to take full advantage of the faster-charging capability. Nokia has also added some smart modes to save energy. The phone now enters the power-saving mode with 20% battery and then the second level of power-saving mode to 10% to further extend battery life.

On the front of the smartphone is a large 6.5" screen with a resolution of 720p +. This is the first G-series smartphone to have a screen that can increase the refresh rate to 90Hz. The phone also comes with a customizable display mode that reduces the refresh rate to 60 Hz to save battery life. It is also the first G-series smartphone to be able to broadcast Netflix in HD resolution.

There is a triple camera on the back of the Nokia G21. This setting includes a 50MP “AI” primary camera sensor, a 2MP macro sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. Nokia has released an ultra-wide 5 MP camera from the G20. Nevertheless, the main camera sensor comes with many improvements. There is a super-resolution mode that improves the details of the captured image. Nokia has also added a dedicated “night mode”.

The driver of the Nokia G21 is the Unisoc T606 processor. This is an octa-core chipset based on a 12nm node that comes with two Cortex-A75 cores and six A55 cores. On paper, this chipset sounds better than the Helio G35 used in the G20. The Unisoc T606 GPU is a Small G57 MP1. This chipset is paired with 4 GB of RAM and 64/128 GB of built-in memory. There is also a memory expansion slot for a microSD card.

The phone is only 4G LTE. There is no support for 5G. For now, it is running Android 11. Nokia says it will provide two major updates for the Android OS for the G21, which could mean Android 12 and Android 13. It will also receive three-year security patches. Nokia says the G21 will come with Pre-installed Spotify and ExpressVPN (30-day free trial). The Nokia G21 will be available in two colors: Nordic Blue and Sunset. There is no exact date of availability as such, but Nokia says it will be available “soon".
