Radeon Refresh: No AMD Radeon RX 6850 XT?

The rumor mongers now agree that the Radeon refresh does not include the RX 6850 XT. No reasons are given explicitly, but they could be related to what drives the refresh.

At AMD, one of the hot topics in the rumor mill is the Radeon refresh. Three of the usual suspects now agree that the AMD Radeon RX 6850 XT is not coming after all and is excluded from the refresh. At least for now. At first, it was thought that the Radeon RX 6800 XT would also be relaunched, but they have now refrained from doing so.

Accordingly, the Radeon RX 6950/XT (Navi 21), the Radeon RX 6750/XT (Navi 22), and the Radeon RX 6650/XT (Navi 23) remained for the refresh. The Radeon RX 6500/XT (Navi 24) should generally not get an update, but it has only just been released and already has 18 GB/s fast memory. That is supposedly the main reason why AMD is planning the refreshes at all. This does not necessarily have to be for performance reasons, but can also be due to the availability of the 16 GB/s modules used so far.

But none of the rumor mongers knew why the Radeon RX 6850 XT was not updated. Another good reason for refreshes is Intel. The Ark graphics cards are supposed to come and you may have to react to them. Their performance scale should end somewhere in the Geforce RTX 3070/Ti range for the time being; AMD would only have to react below that. It was rumored that there would be an additional 10 percent more computing power through shallow upgrades. Of course, that doesn’t explain the Radeon RX 6950 XT, but as indicated, other reasons could also play a role. The refreshes won’t be on the market for long anyway: The upcoming models, i.e. Radeon RX 7000 and Geforce RTX 4000, are scheduled to appear in the fourth quarter.

In other news, there is speculation on Twitter about how the coming chips of the Radeon RX 7000 and Geforce RTX 4000 generations are to be assigned to the individual products.

Graphics card rumor guru and Twitter user Greymon55 has once again commented on the Radeon RX 7000 and the Geforce RTX 4000. He sorts the chips he suspects into the products. However, it has not been clarified whether this is the program that was actually published in its entirety in the fourth quarter of 2022. In any case, the AMD Radeon RX 7000 should consist of the RX 7900RX 7800RX 7700, and RX 7600 models, each of which will be launched as the N31 and N32 in 5 nm and the N33 and N22 in 6 nm. The Nvidia Geforce RTX 4000 should start as RTX 4080/90 with AD102RTX 4070 with AD103/104, and RTX 4060 with AD106.
