RDNA2 refresh allegedly with over 2.5 GHz boost

New rumors about AMD's RX 6950 XT refresh graphics card have surfaced online. This is said to have a boost clock of over 2.5 GHz and be specified with a TDP of 350 watts.

A refresh of AMD's RDNA2 graphics card, which is said to be launched as the Radeon RX 6X50, has been appearing in the rumor mill lately. So far, for example, there has been talk of maintaining 7 nm production and increasing performance by around ten percent. Now the leaker Greymon55, who is active on Twitter, has added more information about the clock and power consumption of the Radeon RX 6950 XT. Over 2.5 GHz at 350 watts

According to current knowledge, the RX 6950 XT should become AMD's new transitional flagship and thus replace the RX 6900 XT (LC). According to Greymon55, it should have both a higher clock and a higher TDP than the previous models. We're talking about a boost beyond 2.5 GHz and a TDP of 350 watts. The performance budget is apparently only an estimate.

Compared to the Radeon RX 6900XT, the values mentioned would be a significant upgrade. In the reference design, this graphics card has a boost clock of 2.25 GHz and a TDP of 300 watts. Compared to the water-cooled RX 6900 XT LC, the difference would be much smaller, because this model is delivered with 2.435 GHz and 330 watts.

It should also be noted that the values, even if they apply, only refer to the respective reference designs. A single custom design, the particularly over-bred Sapphire Toxic Extreme Edition, is even advertised with a 2,730 MHz boost. In principle, such clock rates are also possible with the RX 6900 XT. With the Radeon RX 6950 XT, it, therefore, remains to be seen how much higher the clock of the corresponding custom designs is, and whether they can really keep the clock.

In other news, according to numerous reports, AMD is planning to upgrade its RX 6000 graphics card series this summer, just a few months before the arrival of the all-new generation GPU RX 7000.

At first glance, this may seem counterintuitive; GDDR6 memory (18GB/s instead of 16GB/s). This is a little improvement that AMD could easily overlook, so what could be the reasons for it?
