Windows 10 vs. Windows 11: gaming performance compared using benchmarks

At first, we were rather skeptical about Microsoft's new operating system, but we tested the gaming performance in Windows 11 and Windows 10 (Flight Simulator, F1 2021, Far Cry 6, New World) and compared the results. Contrary to all expectations, the new operating system does a lot better than expected.

Windows 10 vs. Windows 11: gaming performance compared using benchmarks

We tested four current games in three different resolutions and on six graphics cards from different generations. One graphics card from AMD and one from graphics card from Nvidia per generation. Microsoft Flight Simulator

With Windows 10, in the CPU limit, the Nvidia card is slightly faster than the AMD counterpart, while with Windows 11 AMD is slightly ahead. In general, all cards lose performance in the Flight Simulator in Windows 11 in the GPU limit. Not much, but some nonetheless. F1 2021

F1 2021 is a very memory-hungry game, which means that graphics cards with comparatively little video memory struggle quite a bit. Graphics cards such as the RX Vega 56 or the GTX 1070, which are equipped with 8 gigabytes of video memory, benefit very much from the effective memory usage of Windows 11. This results in an immense increase in performance, which can be 30 to 40 percent compared to Windows 10. Far Cry 6

Far Cry 6 is also very memory-hungry, even with HQ textures, and the effective memory usage of Windows 11 can score here as well. Under Windows 10, the RX 5700 XT is significantly faster than the RTX 2070 Super, although the two should be about the same speed. However, if you take a look at the results in Windows 11, then the two cards are almost exactly the same speed. So apparently there are a couple of bottlenecks in Windows 10 that Windows 11 can bypass a bit more effectively. New World

As with the Flight Simulator, the differences in New World are small. The RTX 3090 is interesting here, which can increase the CPU limit in Windows 11 from around 120 to 127 fps.
