Xiaomi 12 series prices higher than ever

We have already written about how the Xiaomi 12 series will be one of the first to implement the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. But with the device offering top-notch specifications and features as a flagship model, it seems the price could be higher than its predecessor.

According to a report published by @ Lǐ'áng'áng áng on the social network Weibo, most brands, except Motorola, will launch smartphones containing Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, at a price of more than 4,000 Yuan (approximately 550 euros).

Apparently, only a few smartphone makers that were able to stockpile the latest chipset before the New Year could offer their flagship models below 4,000 Yuan.

On the other hand, brands that later release their devices would have to face an increase in the price of the chip due to the constant shortage of semiconductors.

And now back to Xiaomi, the Chinese tech giant expects to launch three models in the Xiaomi 12 series. Although it was initially expected that this line would be the first to launch a device with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, Motorola’s upcoming Edge X30 series will actually be the first.

Furthermore, the tipster also added that Moto could keep the price of the Edge X30 below 4000 Yuan. In other words, this puts more pressure on Xiaomi in terms of the prices at which it launches its latest flagship.

Last year, the Xiaomi Mi 11 series had a starting price of 3,999 Yuan. However, with rising material costs, chip shortages, and other supply chain problems, the 12 Series price could start at 4,299 Yuan (approximately 600 euros).

Tipster also added that devices with 2K panels are likely to cost 5,000 Yuan (approximately 700 euros) or more.
