Xiaomi Mi Vacuum Mop 2 Pro - Review
Packaging and design

In the package, in addition to the vacuum cleaner and the charging station, you will also receive a spare floor cloth and an additional broom. The process of first installing the device is reduced to the easiest possible level and all you need to do is first remove the protective sponges and a couple of foils, attach the floor washing container if you want to use this vacuum cleaner for this purpose and that’s about it.

The charging station should be leaning against a wall or closet, and if you wish, you can also glue it to the floor or similar, although in my experience there is no need for that. The cable included in the package is not overly long, which suggests that you will probably place it closer to a specific socket in the beginning, but it is also a standard two-pin power cable that you can buy in any major store. I am glad that the entire power system is inside the station and that this is solved in this way because such cables are used by many devices, from radios, small TVs to various household appliances.

Like most such vacuum cleaners, it has a round shape that has proven to be the best for maneuvering in space. On the front is a kind of bumper or bumper, as you prefer, which will absorb the force from hitting furniture or even walls if something interferes with all possible sensors in this device. So, for example, if he gets stuck under a table, he will find a certain solution for going out by crashing into various objects. This, however, can be a small problem with each of these vacuum cleaners if you have a certain unstable rack on top of which stands a decorative vase or similar fragile item. Because while a vacuum cleaner won’t crash at full speed like a four-year-old who discovered how to run around the house fast, that force will still be enough in some cases to rock something very light and relatively high at least fairly.

It is on this front bumper that there are charging connectors, and the device itself is equipped with a total of 19 sensors. As many as 6 of them are located on the underside of the device and they prevent the device from falling downstairs or the like. There is of course the main brush that is a hybrid design ready for vacuuming carpets and flat surfaces as well as a small brush to collect dust at the corners.

By opening the lid on the upper side, you can access the dust container, which is very easy to remove, empty and put back, and on the lower side you will find a 250 ml water container under which there is a mop or wiping cloth.

The wheels are relatively large for a device like this, which is very good for climbing even the thickest carpets but also overcoming minor obstacles such as door sills or similar. The device is approximately 10 cm high, 94 mm to be precise, and if you are buying new furniture and have a desire for one such vacuum cleaner, it is a warm recommendation to make sure that the new furniture is raised enough from the floor to slide one such device underneath. It should also be noted that Xiaomi uses a HEPA filter here, and what exact specifications, I could not find out. In any case, it is commendable. First setup

To begin with, the Xiaomi Mi Vacuum Mop 2 Pro will need to be pressed against the station manually and left for a few hours to perform the initial charging process. While on the charger, you are free to lift the front cover and press two buttons at the same time and connect it to your smartphone. You will first need to install the Mi Home app on your smartphone if this is the first Xiaomi device from the Home segment. If you already have it, you will immediately be notified within the application that a new device is available in your household. If no such notification arrives, all you need to do is click on the big plus within the app and add it manually. The smartphone should recognize that your new vacuum cleaner is nearby.

Once you have done all this and the filling process is complete, you should prepare the floor for cleaning to begin with. This includes removing all small and large objects that could interfere with the vacuum cleaner’s operation. The most dangerous are small things like Lego bricks or similar that the vacuum cleaner could pull inside. But even if something like this happens, the whole design of the vacuum cleaner is well thought out so it is very easy to remove all the brushes, filters and similar accessories.

The first step is to map the space that the vacuum cleaner will clean. This process involves not only vacuuming, but a quick passage through all surfaces where this vacuum cleaner with the help of advanced laser sensors will map the entire space, which you will be able to see on your smartphone.

There is a chance that during the first quick mapping, they will leave out certain parts of the room, and even the whole room, but don’t worry, they will create a newer map during the first vacuum. We Home application

We have already mentioned that a smartphone and the Mi Home application are needed to control this device. It is relatively simple so you should not have any problems with it, but at the same time it is functional enough so that you would be surprised how much you can put in it.

A prerequisite for connecting to the device is a 2.4 GHz WiFi network to which the vacuum cleaner itself can connect. Initially, your smartphone should be connected to the same network, but after you have completed the initial process of setting up or pairing a smartphone with a vacuum cleaner, you will not need a WiFi network for your smartphone.

All further actions that you control with the smartphone with the vacuum cleaner can take place regardless of your current location. In translation, you can turn on the vacuum cleaner while you are at work or on the other side of the world as long as you have a data connection, and also check at any time what your vacuum cleaner is doing.

You can give him the exact hours in which he will work, most often people do it just when they are not at home because it will take a vacuum cleaner about an hour to vacuum the whole apartment. Now, we’ll talk more about this later, but now let’s focus on all the possibilities you have within the application itself.

For a start, you will see on the screen a map of the space that the vacuum cleaner has created with the help of all smart sensors and algorithms, and you will be surprised at how precisely it is actually done. Literally inside the map I could perfectly see the position of the unusually shaped box under the bed itself as well as each leg of the table or chair.

At the top you can see the area of the mapped space and the time elapsed for the last cleaning as well as the battery status.

There are several ways to clean the space available to you here and before you start cleaning, you can choose exactly which way you want to use. Let’s say if you want your vacuum cleaner to just vacuum, you can choose that. If you just want to mop or wipe the floor, you can do just that. Or maybe you want both. Within the application itself, you can set which zones it will vacuum and which you will delete, or you can define exactly where the carpet is.

You also have several levels of suction and wiping power at your disposal, of which the weakest have a positive effect on the battery, and the strongest on the quality of cleaning, suction power.

If you need a vacuum cleaner to vacuum only a certain place in your household or to wipe that place well, you can do that, of course, and you can also tell him to vacuum only one or more rooms. In short, you can actually do whatever you want and it’s all so intuitive that even the older ones can handle everything easily.

In the device settings you will find cleaning history, folder lists if you use the device on several floors in the house or two or three different apartments, and you can also define virtual walls for it. For example, under the table you have a bunch of cables that you don’t want to get entangled in, just put a virtual wall in front of those cables and you don’t have to worry. The device will do very well in space and will not go there. Or if you have the aforementioned art installation that you don’t want to get stuck in, you can also keep it from cleaning so it doesn’t touch it once more.

Here you can also define his cleaning schedule, for example, you want him to clean everything for you every day from Monday to Friday at 8:00 and the vacuum cleaner will start cleaning every working day as soon as you go to work and finish the plan and program. Depending of course on how much surface you need to clean and which cleaning method you choose. If you are not satisfied with how the device cleaned the corners, you also have the option to clean all the corners around the apartment once again separately. Ways of cleaning

  • Vacuuming

As we have already mentioned, there are several different cleaning methods that a vacuum cleaner supports. It is capable of vacuuming carpets, rugs and similar shaggy surfaces, but also hard ones such as parquet and tiles that it can wipe off. We can’t necessarily say wash because only water is used for cleaning. It’s not allowed to pour any chemistry into the container which is a bit strange to me because the whole system seems to me like it could be solved, but we won’t go into those details now.

The weakest way to vacuum is the quiet one that you can use in the evening while you are staying in the same space and the vacuum cleaner will be a bit quieter in that mode, just don’t expect something noiseless because it will still be heard. It will also have the weakest suction power, so don’t expect miracles when sucking. This is ok for hard surfaces because it will suck up most dust and similar particles.

The tank is very easy to clean so it is not a big problem, and if you want a better solution that you will not need to empty every few days, there is a more powerful Ultra model that empties itself. We’ll talk about that on another occasion.

In the packaging we forgot to mention that you also get a small brush for cleaning filters and the like, but you can also do this with various other aids in the house. It is relatively easy to maintain, and attachments such as replacement brushes or the cloth itself are not overly expensive so it will not be a problem to replace them every few months.

  • Mopping

Vacuuming itself was relatively clear to me how it works. All it takes is a good motor and a good battery with a pair of rotating brushes and it will work. But wiping the floors was actually unfamiliar to me and something that fascinated me. I knew there had to be a certain trick related to vibration, but to be honest, it didn’t instill too much confidence in me because the device itself, even fully charged, weighs only 4kg!

In order for the device to wipe the floors, it is necessary to pour 2.5 ml of water into the tank itself and this did not seem like the happiest solution because of turning the container full of water and attaching it to the electrical device, but over time I got used to it.

It is very important to define which surfaces the device will wipe before wiping so that it does not do so on the carpet. At the moment, there is no clever way for the device to distinguish what a carpet is and what a hard surface is, which honestly surprises me, but that’s the way it is. It’s really not a problem because it’s not about rotating carpets around the house every day.

Now, this wiping of the floor should not be confused with washing the floors because the power of the vibro motor that creates pressure on the surface is not enough to remove stains. Some lighter stains will certainly be well removed, but anything a little more demanding will need to be removed later when cleaning the space by hand. Anyway, I was very pleased with how nice it is to keep the surfaces clean.

Laminate, parquet and similar substrates will wipe very well while removing small particles such as dust, earth and the like and will do so in a smart way by moving from wall to wall and moving just the way you would with a hand mop while wiping the floor.

With harder tiles, especially the rougher ones, this device found itself powerless. It’s not that they won’t do anything, but on such surfaces, I have a hard time with a hand mop and usually, I just soak it well, so I wipe as much as I can and then go out for an hour to dry everything. Battery

All these battery devices have a certain autonomy, and the battery capacity of 5200 mAh is not a particularly important fact in itself. But you can count on something like this. Depending on the mode you use to vacuum and wipe the floors, one charge should be enough to clean a complete apartment up to 200 square feet in standard mode with no problem. I would even dare say he could do more than that.

But generally for one such device, even if you use the most powerful way, rarely does anyone need to vacuum over 100 square meters per day. I say daily because the device will charge from 0-100% for a few hours. I haven’t measured exactly how much, but by free estimate, it will take him about 4 hours. Even if you have more squares than the battery serves, during working hours you will probably get one part to vacuum, recharge and complete a job you failed to solve.
