New Asus cheap motherboards 2022
The latest Intel processors can be an interesting proposition for building a good gaming computer. Contrary to appearances, you do not need to invest in a top motherboard right away – we have prepared a list of the latest ASUS models that will allow you to build a cheaper PC set.
The 12th generation Intel Core processors (Alder Lake-S) were extremely well received by users, but they require new motherboards under the LGA 1700 to support them. Initially, only the more expensive models with the Z690 chipset were available on the market, but recently there are also present, cheaper designs with H670, B660 and H610 chipsets. Cheap ASUS motherboards for 12th generation Intel Core
The new motherboards represent the lower segment, which does not mean that they are not suitable for building a modern computer – such equipment will even work as the basis of a gaming computer (cheaper designs will work well in a home or office computer).
Of course, you have to consider the limited functionality of the chipsets. The H670, B660, and H610 motherboards offer a more modest set of connectors. In addition, the possibilities of overclocking the computer have been limited – in the case of the H670 and B660 models, you can install faster RAM memory, but we will not speed up the processor (except for the two top models B660, which offer the ability to change the BCLK bus clock).
ASUS has prepared a whole range of H670, B660 and H610 motherboards – here we can find designs for players, content creators, as well as budget models for home or office. With better (and therefore more expensive) models, you can count on support for DDR5 memory and the main slot for a graphics card operating in PCI-Express 5.0 mode. In addition, such designs have been adapted to the installation of coolers under the LGA 1700 and LGA 115X / LGA 1200. The cheaper models offer support for DDR4 and PCI-Express 4.0 memory. Gaming motherboards – models H670 and B660
Those interested in building a gaming computer should pay attention to the H670 and B660 models. It is true that these are not as “fancy” constructions as the Z690 models, but you can find here interesting models with an effective design, offering a really rich set of ports (and also additional functions for players).
Among the H670 models, there is only one typically gaming proposition. ASUS TUF Gaming H670-PRO Wi-Fi D4 has a modern design, including effective, extensive heat sinks and Aura Sync backlight.
The board is also distinguished by good functionality. The manufacturer provides support for dual-channel DDR4 memory sets, and modern sockets – including PCI-Express 5.0 x16 (and PCI-Express 3.0 x16 @ x4 + 2x PCI-Express 3.0 x1), four M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 ports and four regular SATA. Players will be interested in a fast Intel 2.5G LAN network card, Wi-Fi 6 wireless network and a good quality Realtek audio codec.
ASUS ROG Strix B660-F Gaming Wi-Fi is one of the top motherboards with the Intel B660 chipset. The construction is distinguished by an effective design that will surely attract the attention of players and enthusiasts. An additional advantage is a possibility of overclocking processors via the BCLK bus (which will be helped by a strong power section – 16 + 1 phases).
Of course, a rich set of connectors could not be missing – among others, four DDR5 memory banks, as well as two PCI-Express x1 and x16 slots (the main one works in PCI-Express 5.0 mode). Three M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 slots and four SATA slots are provided for the drives. There was also a fast network card – 2.5G LAN and Wi-Fi 6 and a good SupremeFX ALC4080 sound card (with the Savitech SV3H712 amplifier).
ASUS ROG Strix B660-G Gaming Wi-Fi is an mATX design, so it will work well when building smaller gaming computers. As in the ROG Strix B660-F Gaming Wi-Fi model, the manufacturer has provided the possibility of overclocking the processor by BCLK (this time, however, a more modest 12 + 1 power section was used).
Because of the smaller size, we have to consider a slightly poorer set of ports. The board supports dual-channel DDR5 memory sets, and there is a PCIe 5.0 x16 connector for the graphics card, PCIe 3.0 x16 (x4) and two PCIe x1, two M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 and four regular SATA connectors. Intel 2.5 Gb Ethernet and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity and an excellent sound system (in this case ROG SupremeFX S1220A with the Savitech SV3H712 amplifier) were also not forgotten.
Another design – ASUS ROG Strix B660-A Gaming Wi-Fi offers very similar functionality to the ROG Strix B660-F Gaming Wi-Fi model. The manufacturer, however, opted for black and silver colors, so the equipment will interest people who assemble sets in a different style. It is also worth adding that the function of overclocking the processor by BCLK has been abandoned here.
The board is available in a version for DDR5 (ASUS ROG Strix B660-F Gaming Wi-Fi) and DDR4 (ASUS ROG Strix B660-F Gaming Wi-Fi D4) memory. In addition, the functionality is identical – the manufacturer has provided two PCI-Express x1 and x16 slots (the main one works in PCI-Express 5.0 mode), as well as three M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 slots and four regular SATA. As in the higher model, the rear panel features 2.5G LAN and Wi-Fi 6 network cards and the SupremeFX ALC4080 audio codec with the Savitech SV3H712 amplifier).
ASUS ROG Strix B660-I Gaming Wi-Fi is a miniature design that will allow you to build ITX computers. As befits equipment for players, there were extensive, effective heat sinks and additional RGB LED backlight.
The miniature mini-ITX format laminate has a correspondingly poorer set of ports – the board offers two DDR5 memory banks, a PCI-Express 5.0 x16 slot, two M.2 slots supporting PCIe 4.0 x4 and four SATA. Gamers should be interested in the 2.5G LAN and Wi-Fi 6 network card, as well as a good-quality SupremeFX S1220A sound card with the Savitech SV3H712 amplifier.
ASUS TUF Gaming B660 Plus Wi-Fi D4 is a proposal for players who are looking for a slightly cheaper proposition than the ROG Strix models. The album is distinguished by an effective style, and at the same time offers superb functionality.
TUF Gaming B660 Plus Wi-Fi D4 supports DDR4 RAM and allows for the installation of four expansion cards – PCIe 5.0 x16, PCIe 3.0 x16 (x4) and two PCIe 3.0 x1 slots are available. There are three M.2 slots for the drives (two PCIe 4.0 x4 and one PCIe 4.0 x2) and four regular SATA. A fast 2.5G LAN network card and wireless Wi-Fi 6 are responsible for connectivity.
The manufacturer’s offer also includes a reduced version of the board – we are talking about the ASUS TUF Gaming B660M Plus Wi-Fi model (in mATX format). The equipment has a similar style, so it should attract the attention of players and enthusiasts.
Naturally, the laminate has a slightly poorer set of ports (the board is available for DDR4 and DDR5 memory). One PCI-Express 5.0 x16, PCI-Express 3.0 x16 (x4) and PCI-Express 3.0 x1 slots are available for expansion cards, and two M.2 drives with PCIe 4.0 x4 and four SATA slots. There are also high-speed network cards – 2.5G LAN and optional wireless Wi-Fi 6.
Finally, the proposal is not so much for players as for content creators. The ASUS ProArt B660-Creator D4 model offers quite a rich set of ports and has been kept in an interesting, modern style.
What can you count on? As the name suggests, the board supports DDR4 RAM. For this, there are two PCI-Express x16 slots (the main one works in PCI-Express 5.0 mode), two M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 slots and four SATA slots. On the rear panel, there are, among others, USB Type C jacks with DisplayPort support, HDMI 2.1 output and DisplayPort input, as well as two network cards (2.5G and GbE LAN).
