During a live demo, Team.AU successfully overclocked the Core i9-14900K to speeds ranging between 7.5 GHz and 8 GHz. This feat was accomplished using the Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Tachyon X motherboard. Roger Chandler, Intel's Vice President and General Manager of the Enthusiast PC and Workstation, Client Computing Group, played a crucial role by continually supplying LN2 to keep the CPU cool. The Core i9-14900K typically boasts a maximum boost clock of 6 GHz, which means Team.AU achieved an impressive 33% overclock. While this record is significant, it still falls short of the world record of 9,043.92 MHz set by the Core i9-14900KF.

Team.AU's overclocked Core i9-14900K made headlines by setting a performance record in Counter-Strike 2, reaching frame rates as high as 1,310 FPS. This benchmark wasn't achieved in a controlled or static environment; the CPU remained stable during an actual gameplay session, with a guest from the audience actively playing and scoring kills. This frame rate is beyond the capabilities of current commercial gaming monitors, with the Asus ROG Swift Pro PG248QP's 540 Hz refresh rate suddenly seeming modest.
Team.AU's achievements at SXSW Sydney 2023 weren't limited to CPU overclocking. They also set a new world record in DDR5 memory overclocking, pushing a Gigabyte DDR5-8333 16GB memory module to an astonishing DDR5-11618. This record was set under challenging conditions, with the system reaching borderline stability and experiencing a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) shortly after achieving the frequency. However, the team managed to submit their result to HWbot in time, marking a new milestone in DDR5 overclocking.
Intel's latest 14th Generation Raptor Lake Refresh processors, including the Core i9-14900K, Core i7-14700K, and Core i5-14600K, are now globally available at major retailers. These refreshed chips offer marginally higher performance compared to their regular Raptor Lake counterparts, yet they maintain the same pricing structure. The non-K series parts are expected to be released shortly after.
The achievements showcased at SXSW Sydney 2023 by Team.AU and Intel highlight the ever-evolving landscape of CPU and memory overclocking. The records set, especially with the Core i9-14900K in Counter-Strike 2 and DDR5 memory overclocking, not only demonstrate technical prowess but also push the boundaries of what's possible in high-performance computing and gaming. These milestones set a new benchmark for enthusiasts and professionals alike, underlining the exciting future of overclocking and high-speed computing.
