Lenovo T1s Pro Robotic Vacuum Cleaner: Review

Lenovo is certainly better known for its laptops, but it also deals with other hardware such as mobile phones and similar smart systems. Robotic vacuum cleaners use a number of technologies that they do not necessarily develop in-house, so we come to their T1s Pro model that uses the Proscenic M7 Pro platform with the same base and device specifications. The difference is in the capabilities of the vacuum cleaner and, of course, the application about which we later wrote more. What it offers is an affordable price for such a system with a base and advanced sensors, but you have to be prepared for a few concessions that you will need to get used to.

Lenovo, at least with the model in our test, went in the pink direction. The color is extremely subtle, but we noticed it after we put the base next to the white wall. Two pins on the base are used to power the vacuum cleaner and locate the correct position for its activation, which empties the contents of the robot. In the upper tank of the base, you will find a compartment with a standard bag for vacuum cleaners that will be filled with the contents that the robot picks up and, depending on your apartment and the number of occupants, can take up to two weeks. Interestingly, this is the only vacuum cleaner that has four pins on the bottom of the robot and first rotates the back to empty the base, after which it moves away, rotates and reconnects to charge the front pins.

Let’s start from the top of the robot, which has a protrusion in the middle of the top with a laser system for navigation and mapping the environment. Thanks to it, it is one of the more advanced vacuum cleaners, and, considering the price, the fact that it includes a base is certainly a plus. The system ensures that the robot will not run into furniture and is enabled with advanced navigation functions, determining the precise cleaning of a specific area or avoiding some part of the apartment.

The rest of the surface does not move, and on the front, there are three buttons that, in addition to the ignition, are used for the initial connection to the system and basic navigation without using the application. The front edge of the robot is standardly designed as a large button that the robot feels when it approaches an obstacle, which better cleans the edges and legs of furniture. In addition to the laser at the top, there are three additional infrared sensors on the front and sides to help determine position.

At the bottom, around its button, there are four additional sensors that watch the edges of the floor to prevent the vacuum cleaner from tipping over, for example on stairs. In the test, thicker wires were not a problem for him, and he could climb over thresholds up to 2 centimeters high. Without more advanced cameras, they won’t be able to avoid light objects like slippers and clothes, so be sure to clear the floor before letting it do the job. The front has two rotating brushes on the sides, which direct the dirt towards the middle where the main roller is, which is closer to the rear of the robot with the entire suction system and is easily disassembled for cleaning. Here we immediately noticed that a roller with a significantly thicker brush was used to lift dirt from the floor which is then pulled into an average-sized compartment of about half a liter which is easy to clean given that it has a large door to eject the contents.

The robot uses a larger air filter with multiple levels of filtration, and the flour entered it through the first mesh and stayed there, so it was easy to clean. The filters are easy to remove, so the plastic box can be washed by hand. Behind the vacuum cleaner, itself is a space with hooks in which an additional wiper holder can be mounted. You have the option to put a microfiber cloth on the holder, and you also get ten disposable paper towels intended for one cleaning. On average, the tank has enough water to clean one room before it needs to be refilled, and we note that it generally serves to further collect finer dust that the vacuum cleaner may not have picked up from hard floors and will not remove stubborn stains. Application and experience

Lenovo has a separate app for the T1 model that is clearly listed on the Google Play Store. Installation is simple, followed by registration. Instead of a number, you can register by email by clicking on the arrow in the field for the mobile phone number and selecting the e-mail to which you will receive a confirmation code. The procedure is then simple, as with other robotic vacuum cleaners, and consists of connecting to a robot that gives you access to your home WiFi network, so you have to write a code.

Once connected, you will see it listed in the app. It is immediately ready for the first round to map the apartment, and you can also choose the suction power, depending on whether you want more, for example for carpets, or quieter work on hard floors. There is also the option of washing the floors by adding a nozzle with a microfiber cloth and filling the tank with water. The app has all the essential functions, from assistant commands to marking zones to be cleaned or avoided. The problem we encountered was that a good portion of the chips and rice crept into the space above the brushes and stayed there for the entire time cleaning the room, surviving and extracting the contents from the tank to the base. When you pick up the robot, that content will slowly begin to spill onto the floor. Another detail is the inadequate transfer of contents from the robot to the base where the vacuum cleaner openings and bases do not close well, so it is often unable to pull the entire contents out of the tank. This problem is also highlighted on the Internet, but for those who want to make fun of it, it is easily corrected by adding a little sponge around the edge of the opening.

Lenovo T1s Pro attacks the best buy segment because at a relatively affordable price it offers systems that have noticeably more expensive models such as advanced sensors and an automatic discharge base. At the same time, the robot has problems with a certain type of waste and with inadequate automatic discharge from the tank to the base.
