WhatsApp disappearing messages new update

WhatsApp has added several new features to improve the user experience and offer more privacy control in the last few months. Back in November 2020, WhatsApp announced disappearing messages, giving users the option to automatically delete all messages after 7 days. Now, WhatsApp adds more options to missing messages, as well as the ability to select missing messages by default for a chat.

From the first launch in November 2020 until now, WhatsApp users have only been able to set up missing messages for individual or group chats with a disappearance period of 7 days. Now, with the introduction of the new update, users will get the option of more time to disappear messages in addition to the existing 7 days, users will get options for 24 hours and 90 days. In addition, you get the Off option, which stops the automatic deletion of messages, reports MySmartPrice.

In a group chat, each member of the group can turn missing messages on or off. However, the group administrator can change the group settings to allow only administrators to turn disappearing messages on or off.

Further, WhatsApp users will now have the option to include disappearing messages by default for all new chats. When this feature is enabled, all new one-on-one chats that you or another person starts will be set to disappear for the selected duration. And, when creating a new group, WhatsApp has added a new feature that allows you to include it for the groups you create. These two new features are optional and will not affect or delete any of the existing chats.

When you choose to enable disappearing messages, WhatsApp will also notify the chat person. WhatsApp also allows you to quickly return to a normal chat that does not delete messages automatically.

To get started with this new feature, you need to follow these steps:

  • Open WhatsApp
  • Tap the three - dot menu icon in the upper right corner
  • Tap Settings - Account
  • Tap Privacy
  • Select - "Default message timer"

The update has started to be distributed globally and all users will receive it in the coming days.
