The AOC G4309VX / D fulfills many of the wishes of gamers but is also not an all-around carefree package. AOC focuses on the inner values: 4K UHD, 144 Hertz, over 1,000 candelas per square meter and modern connection standards.
The AOC G4309VX / D fulfills many points on the list that a modern gamer has for a monitor suitable for gaming. AOC installed a high-contrast VA panel (4,000: 1 typical, static) with 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. The 43 inches (approx. 109 cm) screen diagonal could, however, turn out to be a bit too big for some users. The span definitely requires a distance from the device, which can be difficult in cramped conditions. On the plus side, there is a certification with DisplayHDR 1000, which guarantees a peak brightness of 1,000 candelas per square meter for HDR content; the datasheet states 1,100 candelas per square meter. For SDR content, AOC states a peak brightness of 720 candelas per square meter. But there is no super-elaborate zone lighting that curbs blooming.
The datasheet also includes 144 Hertz refresh rate, 1 millisecond response time (MPRT), 8 bit + FRC color depth including factory calibration and a coverage of 95 percent of the DCI-P3 color space. In terms of connections, there are two HDMI 2.1 and two Displayport 1.4 in the range. There is a USB 3.2 Gen 1 hub with four type-A ports and a 3.5 jack for audio. Adaptive Sync seems to work between 48 and 144 Hertz and motion blur reduction is also on board.
There are two loudspeakers with 7 watts each for emergency sound; the foot is rudimentary and its inclination can only be slightly adjusted. There is also no lighting, which can be positive or negative depending on your taste. As with most devices, you have to compromise and choose your priorities.
In Taiwan, the AOC G4309VX / D is currently being offered for the equivalent of around 1,200 euros. Whether and when the device will come to Europe is still unclear at the moment.
