The adventures of Kratos and Atreus have arrived on PC and confirm the already established material - this atmospheric adventure is still one of the best video games in the world.
Sony's full-fledged entry into the world of PC gaming began with the arrival of several famous games such as Horizon and Days Gone, but with the release of God of War in 2018, the standard of high-budget titles for which the company is known is more visible than before. The action-adventure from the Santa Monica studio contains several very specific elements that make a good game great, and when we first played it, it was overshadowed only by Zelda: Breath of The Wild. While testing the original version on the PlayStation 4, we couldn’t help but get the impression that the adventure of old Kratos and young Atreus has all the elements needed for a good action title, but doesn’t include the fluidity and fun offered by Nintendo’s title.A title worth playing
Three years after the game came out on Sony’s last console, we played it on the PlayStation 5 and experienced a number of benefits, such as increased frames per second, as well as support for increased resolution. With the arrival of God of War on the PC, this experience has been effectively transferred to the new medium and, more or less, it is doing everything it has done before, only on a number of platforms.
The fantastic thing is actually the part that, given all the iterations played, has remained out of our sight. It is a game that most gamers did not manage to play on the PC due to its exclusivity, which means that a new group of gamers can experience a great story, very good acting, and a variety of content for the first time. Impressions are, as expected, more than good - God of War on Steam is currently one of the most played and popular titles, and its ratings are extremely positive. The story of the killer of the gods
In case you have never played or entered the story of God of War too much, you take on the role of the main protagonist of the series, the antihero Kratos, who tries to survive in an unknown land and give his son Atreus a life without bloodshed and divine intrigue. The bloodthirsty Spartan in his older edition is full of remorse for the things he has done and is more or less determined that his descendant will not follow in his footsteps - given that he knows firsthand where the idea of messing with the gods leads.
Unfortunately for Kratos and Atreus, the gods this time coming from Norse mythology do not have much understanding for the rebellious god of war. Let us remind you that Kratos exterminated the Greek pantheon in the past sequels of the game, and this time Ragnarok was overwhelmed by the whole story.Action with style
God of War has always been known for its fluid and brutal combat, an excellent element that in the new sequel remains one of the crown jewels, along with phenomenal music and a beautiful world. In the game, in addition to the inevitable conflict with the vengeful and sinister gods of Norse mythology, you will deal with their legacy and use thematically more appropriate equipment. Thus, instead of Kratos' chains, the main role is played by the Leviathan axe, a magical weapon with which he can freeze opponents and return it to his hand in a similar way as Tor can summon the hammer Mjölnir.
This gives players the opportunity to dominate in long-distance combat, as well as in hand-to-hand combat, in which, as in previous sequels, they have dozens of colorful attacks that can be combined with runes that give them special powers and spectacular magical effects.
Another novelty compared to previous sequels is the presence of young Atreus, and he can invoke various attacks on Kratos' command involving enemy groups and is equipped with a bow and arrow, which, over time, can mean the difference between winning and losing a fight.
As for the enemies in the game, they are designed to force players to apply different strategies. While some are equipped with great reach and a bunch of health, others hide behind a shield or use emerging from the ground to make your life miserable.
The answer to their attacks lies in the flexibility of Kratos' equipment, which is not fixed on the Leviathan but provides opportunities such as fighting with a shield or even bare fists. This comes to the fore if you decide to deal with secondary bosses, no doubt a bigger challenge than anything the game has to offer. God of War is also well aware of the fact that the main character’s arsenal, albeit equipped with a bunch of variations, is limited. In the later parts, the players get the tools that make the whole thing fresh, and in the story, after practicing, they introduce elemental combat and adaptation, which proved to be an excellent and very nostalgic choice.Eye candy
God of War has always been a visually appealing game. When it first came out on the PlayStation 4, it was among the most beautiful games on the platform, and with the arrival of the PlayStation 5 and, finally, the PC version we played last, it solidifies the material and creates a visual spectacle that nicely complements an already very good gaming experience. Traveling to various worlds characteristic of Nordic mythology is a real treat for fans of science fiction, and treats every locality you visit with a healthy dose of respect.
As far as gaming on the PC is concerned, standard higher texture resolution, support for ultra-wide monitors, and an unlimited number of frames per second await you. Add to this a quick load and you have a game that doesn’t waste a lot of your time and offers hours and hours of high-quality entertainment.
