WHO WORKS FROM HOME WILL HAVE A LOWER SALARY: Facebook, Google and Twitter reduce salaries for workers who do not come to work
Google has decided that the salary will be lower for employees who work from home.
Google employees could face pay cuts if they choose to work from home due to the coronavirus pandemic, reports Reuters, which had an insight into Google's salary calculator.
Facebook and Twitter have already cut salaries for employees working from home who have moved to areas where living costs are lower.
However, Google's payroll tool - which allows employees to see the effects of relocation - suggests that employees who work from home, especially those who travel remotely, could face wage cuts even if they haven't moved.
“Our compensation packages have always been determined by location and we always pay the largest amounts in the local market based on where the employee works from,” a Google company spokesman said, adding that salaries will vary from city to city and from state to state.
A Google employee, who asked to remain anonymous for fear of punishment, usually travels to the Seattle office from a nearby district, and if he works full time from home, he will probably face a salary reduction of about 10 percent. The employee was thinking about working remotely but still decided to continue going to the office - despite the two-hour commute to work.
"The amount of the salary reduction is equal to the increase I received for the last promotion. I did not invest so much effort in vain to progress that I would eventually face a salary reduction," he said.
