iPhone 14 Max will have an improved 60Hz screen

Apple has started work on its next generation of smartphones, the iPhone 14 line and if reports are to be believed, Apple will launch four models in September 2022.

Upcoming models are expected to be the iPhone 14, 14 Max, 14 Pro, and 14 Pro Max. This means that the company will get rid of the Mini model after only two generations.

Now, in a new report coming from The Elec, which cites sources in the display supply chain, Apple has yet to decide what type of display it wants to offer on the iPhone 14 Max smartphone.

Supposedly there is a dilemma between 60Hz LTPS and 120 HZ LTPO panels (LTPS is a slightly better version of a standard LCD, while LTPO allows dynamic control of the screen refresh rate)

If the company is going for a 120Hz LTPO screen, then it will have to procure panels from Samsung which has almost a monopoly on OLED LTPO technology. The South Korean giant also supplies panels for the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max models.

However, Apple wants to diversify its supply chain and reduce its dependence on Samsung, which is why the company is increasing the share of panel manufacturers such as LG and BOE. In that case, the iPhone 14 Max could end up with a 60Hz LTPS panel.

This is because LG has not been able to produce OLED displays with LTPO technology. On the other hand, similar Chinese BOE technology is expected to be available only in 2023.

Samsung will continue to be the largest supplier of display panels for the iPhone and could ship around 130 million units next year. However, LG and BOE are expected to increase their offerings to 60 million units and 45 million units, respectively.

Returning to the iPhone 14 line, the standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are expected to have the same 6.1-inch diagonal, while the Pro version will have a refresh rate of 120Hz, while the standard version remains at 60.

For the iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max, 6.7-inch screens are expected, while the Pro Max version expects a refresh rate of 120Hz, and for the Max version, we can only hope that it will get the much-desired 120Hz.
