The Google Messages app is preparing to send videos via SMS

In the latest APT Insight report from 9to5Google, the default SMS / RCS app for Android says: Google Messages may get a new feature that allows users to send videos via Google photos in cases where RCS is not available. The beta version of Google Messages 10.4 reveals new settings called “Google Photos: Share clearer video in a text (SMS / MMS).

Based on the description of this setting, recipients can get a link to Google Photos to click and watch the video from the sender. Alternatively, the recipient who receives the Google Photos link to the Messages app can watch the high-quality video directly from the chat window. We assume that iOS users may need to open a link in the browser.

Sharing large files in the cloud is not a new concept. Samsung supports Link Sharing, which uploads photos and videos to a Samsung server for download for a limited time via a connection accessed through any browser. A Google solution would be a great idea because videos no longer deserve to be seriously compressed and sent over an outdated protocol.
