The video game market will fall in 2022
As recent events have demonstrated, this year was not one of the most notable for the video game business.
However, Ampere Analysis, an analytics business that has previously concentrated on the video game industry, has released fresh research focused on market turnover this year to demonstrate a historic milestone: the first year in a long time. a period when the industry will decline
The global video game market is expected to reach 188,000 million dollars in 2022, a sum that, while significant, would be less than the 191,000 million dollars generated in 2021.
" After two years of great expansion (2020 and 2021), the video game market is about to slow down a bit in 2022 due to different factors," said Piers Harding Rolls, research director at Ampere Analysis.
Some explanations pertain to the pandemic's strong (unreal) growth, during which time users boosted their investment in video games; however, this also meant a paradigm shift in the creation of new titles, with various delays that now approach dates in 2023 and even later years.
On the other hand, we have also seen a severe shortage problem, which has resulted not only in the lack of devices from both new generation consoles but also in a significant increase in the cost of some fundamental components for this sector, such as graphics cards. Fortunately, mining regulation appears to be already working in bringing us to a state of normality.
In fact, while the figure for 2022 is the first dip in the market in more than five years, we are not approaching a recession, but rather a "stumble." And it is the analyst herself who has wished to transmit the word that there is nothing to worry about, projecting that the video game business would increase again in 2023, with expected revenues of 195,000 million dollars, setting a new record.
