DRM problems with Alder Lake CPUs

Intel has published a list of games that still either won't load or crash on Windows 11 or 10 due to the DRM problem that occurs with Alder Lake CPUs. These are Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Fernbus Simulator, and Madden 22.

Last month, over 50 games on Windows 11 and 10 were affected by a DRM problem that occurred in connection with the new Alder Lake processors from Intel. Background: Certain DRM software did not get along with the e-cores of Intel's 12th core generation or recognized them as a different system. This then ensured that certain games could not be run properly and crashes at startup or during gameplay were the consequences. Only three games affected by DRM issues

Intel and Microsoft have now reached a point where the DRM issues for most games have been resolved. Only three titles still have the problem on Windows 11 and/or 10, namely Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Fernbus Simulator, and Madden 22. A list of these three games can be found on the Intel website. In addition, the chip manufacturer asks players whose desired title is not on the list to install the latest Windows update, as the latest updates for Windows 11 and 10 would fix most of the DRM problems.

Otherwise, there is also the option of the " Scroll Lock Workaround " by activating the Legacy Game Compatibility mode via the BIOS of the motherboard. For the games concerned, the e-cores of the Alder Lake CPUs can then be "put to sleep" using the scroll lock while playing and the DRM problem should no longer occur. Mainboard manufacturers such as MSI and Gigabyte even provide software tools to simplify this mode. You only have to make one setting in the tool, which works for both Windows 11 and Windows 10. A detour via the BIOS can thus be saved.
