Sony appears to be gearing up for the launch of pre-orders for the Playstation VR 2 soon. Finally, the official PS5 VR headset website is now available.

As part of CES 2022Sony officially announced the Playstation VR 2 . A release date is still pending, but the first PS5 game is already known with Horizon Call of the Mountain. The group has now published the official website for the upcoming virtual reality headset. So you can be notified by e-mail when the pre-order is possible. Apparently, the pre-order option will start soon.

What should the PS VR 2 offer?

As already suspected, the new edition of PS VR is capable of inside-out tracking and can therefore recognize the player’s position in space. Four cameras built into the PS VR 2 are used for this. To increase immersion, Sony has also built-in eye-tracking and offers headset feedback. A vibration motor is installed in the PS VR 2, which is intended to simulate the noise of approaching objects. The eye-tracking follows the gaze of the players so that specific interactions should be possible. However, eye tracking requires a compatible video game and will not work in all PS5 games.

The OLED displays come with an increased resolution. There are now 2,000 x 2,040 pixels per eye. Depending on the PS5 game, 4K graphics are also available at up to 120 fps, according to Sony. You can also choose between a refresh rate of 90 Hz or 120 Hz. The field of view is 110 degrees and the distance between the Fresnel lenses can be adjusted individually using the setting wheel. A headset can be connected to the PS VR 2 using a 3.5 mm jack. Only a single USB-C cable is required to connect the PS VR 2 to the Playstation 5. According to the Sony website, the PS5’s front USB port is used for the cable connection. Whether the PlayStation VR 2 can also be used with the Playstation 4 is still open.

New hand controller Playstation VR 2 Sense Controllers

As Sony explained in March 2021, the hand controller takes over some features from the Dualsense of the Playstation 5. The new VR controller has adaptive triggers that, for example, make you feel resistance when you draw a bow to shoot an arrow shoot. Sony also integrates two “grab” buttons, which are supported – by compatible games – to be able to grab objects in the game. The VR controller also has haptic feedback. According to Sony, the new controller should offer finger touch recognition and thus be able to recognize where the thumb and index finger are, even if no pressure is applied. A tracking ring on the bottom of the controller will allow the upcoming PS VR 2 to track the movement of the VR controller.

It is now clear that the new hand controller will be called the Playstation VR 2 Sense Controller and will be compatible with the new PS VR 2. It is still unclear when the new VR headset and controller will be available.
