WhatsApp could soon remove the time limit for deleting messages

WhatsApp is one of the most popular communication services ever, with billions of people using it worldwide at any given time. WhatsApp is a general improvement over SMS messaging in most areas, but it still has some limitations - especially when it comes to deleting your own messages, writes XDA-developers. There is currently a time limit on how much time you have after sending a message to delete it, but according to a new report, it could soon disappear.

WhatsApp did not support deleting messages for everyone in the conversation until 2018 when a timer was added that gave people 4,096 seconds (68 minutes and 16 seconds) to delete a message after it was sent. VABetaInfo has now found evidence in the latest WhatsApp Beta update that the time limit could be removed. There don't seem to be any additional restrictions or problems, at least for now - you'll be able to delete any message you've sent at any point in history.

It is not clear when the new functionality could arrive, and it is also possible that WhatsApp will give up. The change isn't even present in beta editions yet, so assuming WhatsApp continues to evolve, it probably won't be available to everyone for weeks or months.

Meta (remember, Facebook changed its name) has been working hard on WhatsApp for the last few months. Limited chat transfers from iPhone to Android arrived a few days ago, and encrypted end-to-end backups were released in October. The service also works on a redesigned Picture-in-Picture mode and the ability to pause voice recordings.
